Hello, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Angela Skarecky. I am 39 years old. I was born and raised in California for the first few years of my life, then my parents moved me to beautiful Las Vegas, NV, where I still reside. I have two adorable chihuahuas that are my world. I enjoy taking them to the dog park, on bicycle rides, and long walks on a pleasant day. I worked as a hairstylist for 15 years. Sadly, standing for long periods of time everyday takes a toll on your body. I am now considering pursuing an education in computer information technology or data analytics.
My first impression of IS101 is that the work seemed a little intense and intimidating. However, as the last couple of weeks have passed I have found that it is not as hard as I had thought. My professor helps us as much as possible to understand what we are learning. Now I am starting to feel comfortable with the Windows 11 operating system and using my personal computer. I am doing things I never thought possible. My first impression of College of Southern Nevada is that the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. The campus that I attend is fairly big and my advisor helped me out by giving me a map of the campus so I can easily find my way around.
For a class discussion, I chose a skill of Customizing Views and Options-Customizing Toolbars and Ribbons. I have no experience with this skill prior to this class. Now I am a little excited to use it. To make a command available in a more convenient location, you can add it in the quick access toolbar. You can also customize your ribbon display and hide commands on ribbon tabs. This makes it personalized to your specific needs so you can access what you need faster.
Information technology and data analytics are excellent fields to be in, Angela :-)
ReplyDeleteCustomizing one's ribbon display and hide commands on ribbon tabs not only make one's life and operations easier but also demonstrates one's competency in information technology!
Very glad to hear your found IS101-3205, Spring 2025 to be not as hard as you had thought and staff at CSN are very helpful and knowledgeable. I see you succeeding in your education pursuit -- whichever major/field you choose -- with your two chihuahuas by your side ^_^
Hey Angela! It’s awesome that you’re exploring a new career path in technology, computer information technology and data analytics both sound like exciting fields! Your chihuahuas sound adorable, and it’s great that you take them on so many adventures. IS101 definitely seemed overwhelming at first, but like you said, it’s getting easier with time and practice. Customizing toolbars and ribbons is such a useful skill, it’s great how small tweaks can make working on a computer so much more efficient. Looking forward to learning alongside you this semester! ^-^
ReplyDeleteHello Angela! Standing for long periods takes a toll on the body, and it's great that you’ve decided to pursue a different career path in computer information technology or data analytics. I have also stood all day in all my jobs, and I’m tired of it because when I get home, I feel like I can finally rest. But no, there are children, a wife, and house chores that end up needing my attention. The only time I get to rest my feet is when I'm either doing schoolwork, eating, or really late at night when everyone's asleep. That's why I'm hoping the degree I get in software programming will allow me to sit and not feel too tired to start going to the gym again and enjoying some downtime off my feet like I used to in my youth. The class is not too difficult as long as we do our part, and the professor is very helpful. One thing I learned when being a franchised Area Manager for two UPS Stores in California is that I don't fire the people; they fire themselves. The same logic works here. The professor doesn't fail you; you do that on your own. The Ribbons are very useful, and I used them, but now I have a better grasp on them because of this course.
ReplyDeleteHi Angela! I think it is great that you are pursuing a new career path. Information technology and data analytics sound like a great choice. I am a dog lover as well and have recently gotten a new Doberman. He has so much energy so he gets to go on a lot of adventures too. IS101 was intimidating for me at first but the more I get into the course work, the more comfortable I am getting. The ribbon display within Office applications have so many features, so the personalization that can be added is a very neat and helpful tool. Good luck on your journey of pursuing a new career field!
ReplyDeleteHey there Angela! I also have a chihuahua, and she truly completes my family. I’d love to get a bicycle with a basket for her someday and ride along the bike paths around town. I’ve never customized ribbon displays before and will usually just stick with the default setting so that was a great skill to share! I’ll need to take some time to customize my ribbons and toolbar to better suit my workflow. Keep up the great work Angela!
ReplyDeleteHello Angela, I was also unaware of the option that we could customize the ribbon to our preference. This feature is a life changer. Customizing it to the user's preference lets the user change the ribbon to their most used ribbon and has the ability to take off unwanted ribbons.
ReplyDeleteStanding for long periods and how you use your hands in hair styling does take a toll on your body. Glad you are making a move to take care of yourself and your well-being. Information technology is a great move currently. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that likes Windows 11. Before this class I didn't put any thought into customizing the ribbon, but I may look into doing it at work to simplify things.
ReplyDeleteHey Angela!
ReplyDeleteA hairstylist? How cool! It takes a load of creativity, passion, and precision to take on different types of hair. Totally understand the want for change though, but hairstyling and data analysis sound like two amazing skills to have!
Great for you that this course seems easier than it seemed, looks like I have some learning to do from you!
The ribbons and toolbars lesson also helped me out as well! I too was a little naive to computer skills as well, so I am glad to hear the LabSims are helping others too!
Hello Angela!
ReplyDeleteIt’s great to learn about your journey and interests. It sounds like you’ve had a lot of exciting changes in your life, especially moving from hairstyling to exploring something in computer information technology or data analytics. It’s awesome that you’re embracing this new challenge, and your love for your chihuahuas is so sweet!
Glad to hear that CSN is treating you well, and I’m sure you’ll continue to do great as you move forward with your studies. Keep up the great work, and good luck with everything ahead!
Customizing the toolbar in word can be a very useful tool. I used to own a chihuahua when I was like 12 but unfortunately we had to give her away since our new landlord didn't allow pets.
ReplyDeleteHey Angela! I have three dogs of my own that I take to the park or simply walk around my neighborhood. I got two big dogs so can't do bicycle rides because I'm scared I will fall off from them pulling.
ReplyDeleteHey Angela,
ReplyDeleteIt’s great to hear about your journey from hairstyling to exploring the world of technology! A career shift is never easy, but it sounds like you’re embracing the challenge, and IS101 is already helping you gain confidence with Windows 11 and your personal computer.
Your chihuahuas sound adorable, and it’s awesome that you take them on so many adventures! As for customizing toolbars and ribbons, that’s a super useful skill—having quick access to the tools you use most will definitely make things more efficient.
Wishing you the best on your path in computer information technology or data analytics! Excited to see where this new journey takes you!
Hey Angela! Your chihuahuas sound adorable—I also had a chihuahua, and he lived to 18 years. When he passed, it was really tough because he was my first fur baby. Chihuahuas are honestly one of the best dog breeds in my opinion! That’s awesome that you’re transitioning into tech and finding IS101 easier as you go. Customizing toolbars and ribbons is such a useful skill—sounds like you’re off to a great start. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteHi Angela,
ReplyDeleteI have been doing my own hair since I was in middle school! Always cutting, dying and doing my own extensions so I taught myself a good amount of stuff about doing hair. My husbands family just had a chihuahua named Peewee that just passed away but he was so adorable and lived so long, 19 years! They really are such cute sweet dogs.
Hi Angela,
ReplyDeleteI love to meet other dog lovers. I enjoy taking my 2 golden retrievers on trail runs near Calico Basin.
Hi Angela, I also have a dog which is a miniature pinscher. Professor Wu definitely helps us with assignments and finishing these assignments. CSN overall is a friendly and welcoming school.
ReplyDeleteHi Angela, that’s cool! I always wanted to be a hairstylist but then I thought about standing in one spot for hours and I can’t do that. I have to constantly be moving around, especially at work. It’s my first year at CSN too, I was surprised to find out that there are multiple campuses which makes is easier to find parking and the campuses are also emptier.
ReplyDeleteHi Angela,
ReplyDeleteI also have a chihuahua. I take him on daily walks or else he starts to cry. My dog logs riding golf carts and atvs. Good job taking on a change for the better. Wish you the best!
Hi Angela, I too have two dogs! I have a pomeranian and a border terrier mix. Even though they are the cutest things ever they really can be a handful sometimes, hopefully your pups are more well behaved! They are so cute too!
